Then I thought to myself, "oh no. The new driver detected the adapter. When it got to the part where it directed me to install the adapter, it said it could not detect it. Don't get me wrong this is a good product. However, it's never dropped a signal. With the one minor hiccup above, this is a good product overall. So, I downloaded the new driver and installed it into the computer.
Low and behold, there was another driver.
I received a defective product." So, I decided to uninstall and reinstall a few more times.
However, once that occurred, I've had no problems.
It does work, but the setup disc that came with it gave me problems. When I first received the product, I put the setup disc into the drive and proceeded to follow the directions.
After that, it took a while to get reception with the DIR-655 router.
Same thing happened.
I was almost about to give up, when I decided to see if d-link's website had any updated drivers.
It normally cycles between 1-3 bars of reception.
Just remember that this product is only compatible with Windows 2000 and XP.I recommend this product for anyone who's considering a home wireless network.
Router upstairs 2nd floor. There were problems with our old G router/adapter setup. Reception is great even in the basement PC. Internet comes in and would go out. Switched to N draft router (more or less same specs as N standard) and this adapter. Now I never had a problem with G in notebooks, just PC's. Problem solved now.
The D-link adapter connected very easily even without the cradle. I just purchased this wireless adapter yesterday and i must say i am impressed with how easily it gets a signal. I currently attend a University which has N wireless which my laptop only took b/g. I own a Toshiba netbook without a dvd drive, so all i did was copy the drivers to a separate usb flash drive and installed them. Very easy to use.
Other than this it stays connected to the internet consistently for my mom's desktop which is the reason I purchased it because she was having connectivity issues with an older Wireless B adapter so i figured it was time for an upgrade. I gave this product 4 stars as opposed to 5 only because despite being named an N product it operates as G speeds from what I have seen, i.e. 54 mbps. It is a truly marvelous product but again my disappointment was with the slower speed. If anyone can help me effect faster speeds that are associated with N wireless such as 150 to 300 mbps let me know.
For example, my 18-20Mbps connection to Comcast dropped to less than 6Mbps last night, and was so intermittent that easy-to-access webpages like [.]. Really loved the look and connection speed of this attractive puppy-- a whopping 150 - 300 Mbps, after all of three minutes of setup and connection time. Sadly, after a few weeks running it, it bgean to overheat, and the connection would slow or drop altogether. were timing out, while my other machine stayed pinned at 20.DLink said I must return it for a new one. I hope the same doesn't occur.
